Lottozero Residency, Prato, Italy
My project began with a month-long Textile-focused residency at Lottozero in Prato, Italy. Located in one of the main textile districts in Europe, Lottozero is a creative hub and design studio specialising in textile research and experimentation. My intention during the residency was to experiment and learn new skills that push my practice in unforeseen directions, whilst also undertaking a new research project around expanded textile practices in NSW.
Simultaneous to the residency, I was invited by Lottozero’s curator, Alessandra, to join Soft Sculpture, a program focused on female-identifying artists from diverse backgrounds whose practices explore the connection between textiles and sculpture. This program facilitated invaluable networking opportunities with artists, curators, and arts workers from around the world who share common interests, methodologies and material practices.
My research undertaken during this project will inform the curatorial direction of an exhibition I have been invited to organise at the National Art School (Sydney) in 2026. This exhibition will aim to amplify the diversity, complexity and potentiality of the expanded textile field, introducing the NSW art community, especially emerging artists at the National Art School, to experimental, multidisciplinary, textile-based practice.
